back into the lead," said Russell.
But his problems weren't
over yet. He got stuck again in
another mud hole.
"I sank in and it was like
quicksand," Russell said. "It took
about three guys to help me
out and I lost a ton of time, but
because of my lead, I was able
to remain in the top position."
Bobbitt slipped back a couple
of positions on the opening lap,
at which time Ryan Sipes made
a run at Bobbitt but he too got
stalled by a large mud hole on
the second lap. Sipes lost a sub-
stantial amount of time working
pulling his Husqvarna out of the
muck and spent the rest of the
race making up for lost time. He
eventually finished 10
th
in XC1.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna
Factory Racing's Josh Strang
is the only one so far who has
shown any signs of being able
to challenge Russell. For the
second race in a row, the Husky
rider finished second to Russell
but slipped another five points to
the defending champ.
Strang put himself into a favor-
able position early on. However,
as he worked his way into the
second place position, Strang
got together with a lapped rider,
resulting in a damaged front
brake rotor. The 2010 GNCC
National Champion came into
the pits for a quick front wheel
swap and returned to the course
Russell overcame a few
setbacks on the first lap to
grab his second win in a row.
