P142 40 Years Ago March 18, 1975 Gene Romero—aka "Burritto"—graced the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago after winning the prestigious Daytona 200… Jimmy Ellis won the 250cc class at the second round of the Yamaha Super Series of Motocross. Steve Stackable did the same in the 500cc class aboard a Maico… The United States Speedway team took on the world at Costa Mesa Speedway. Leading the U.S. team to victory was 1973 National Speedway Champion Mike Bast… Mike Bell won the 125cc Pro class at a motocross race in Irwindale, California, while rain forced the cancellation of all other classes. 30 Years Ago March 20, 1985 Yamaha's groundbreaking new TY350 appeared on the cover 30 years ago. We did a full test on the innovative bike and gave a glowing review… Bob Hannah won the grueling Daytona Supercross. Taking second was Jeff Ward with Ron Lechien completing the podium… Off-road legend Larry Roeseler was a double winner at District 37's Viewfinders Grand Prix in Riv- erside, California… We also got to swing a leg over Enduro Champion Terry Cunningham's automatic Husqvarna 500AE—another innovative machine that we thoroughly enjoyed taking for a spin. 10 Years Ago March 16, 2005 Ricky Carmichael landed on the cover once again, this time taking a win at the St. Louis Supercross—his seventh win of 2005. Chad Reed finished second ahead of Kevin Windham while Grant Langston topped the 125cc class... We pitted five heavyweights against each other in our 450cc mo- tocross shootout, with the Honda CRF450R being crowned the winner… Steve Hatch took top honors at the Arizona National Enduro. GNCC racer Juha Salminen tried his hand at a WORCS race in Texas, and won. We also tested out the new Montesa Cota 4RT trials bike.
