There was plenty of race action
both before and after the WCGP,
as the Vets, Seniors, Magnum,
Women and youth classes took
to the course. Gordon Ward
lined up with the Vet class, and
took a dominant win to no one's
surprise. Ward battled with Dirt
Bike magazine's Mark Tilley in
the early going, but eventually
pulled away on his YZ450F for
the overall Vet win. Tilley held
on for second in the Vet Heavy-
weight Expert division ahead
of Tyler Renshaw. Meanwhile
Morgan Crawford bested Rowan
Trefz for the Lightweight Expert
win. Unfortunately for defend-
ing Vet champion Bob Roberts,
his day ended early after a hard
crash in the off-road section
known as "Boy Scout Canyon."
In the Magnum (50+) class,
Paul Krause showed the way,
and rode to a dominant win
ahead of Ron Hofer and Greg
Fountain. It was only the be-
ginning of a busy weekend
for Krause, as the KTM rider
went on to race the Senior
class and the Expert race on
