R
yan Dungey, it seems,
has gone from a rider who
lays in wait, to a rider who
dominates. Though it took him
seven laps to get around BTO
Sports' Andrew Short in the main
event, the Red Bull KTM rider
totally dominated the Daytona
Supercross by Honda held in the
legendary Daytona International
Speedway. By the way he rode,
it was hard to believe Dungey
had never won at the facility be-
fore. But this was his first victory,
and it was an impressive one.
"It's cool to be able to finally
win here," said Dungey. "I've
been here so many times and
had so many great finishes, but
tonight we fought hard."
ROAD TO THE WIN
In the beginning, though, it
looked as if Short might be able
to give Dungey all he could han-
dle. At the same time, Dungey
had Team Honda HRC's Cole
Seely nipping at his rear fender.
"It got a little bit crazy in the
beginning trying to get around
Short," said Dungey. "It could
have cost me, with Seely on
the inside…we were banging. I

Briefly...
After getting off to a fast start in the
2015 Supercross Championship,
Ken Roczen's chances of winning
the title has been all but erased. The
former points leader withdrew from
the Daytona Supercross after the
first practice session when he re-
agravated his injured ankle, which he
initially injured at the Atlanta I Super-
cross two weeks earlier. Roczen will
have the ankle re-evaluated before
deciding what his plans are for the
rest of the series.
SmartTop/MotoConcepts Racing's
Mike Alessi suffered a hard get-off
during the 450 main event and was
unable to finish the race. He report-
edly suffered a back injury but the
good news is that it appears that he
did not break anything.
"It was a really good day and not
such a great night," said Honda
HRC's Trey Canard who finished
sixth in the 450 main. "I felt really
comfortable on the bike all day, and
it was good to get another pole. I
was feeling strong heading into the
main event, but I got caught up with
Broc [Tickle] right off the start, and
my front wheel was stuck on his foot
peg in the first turn. I couldn't get it
off, and then I wanted to look at my
wheel before I took off to make sure
there weren't any spokes broken. Af-
ter that, I just tried to ride my race,
but it was extremely tough. Every-
one was going a different speed, so
it was hard to make good passes,
but I did the best I could and made
it up to sixth. I'm really disappointed,
but we're going to keep working on
things and hopefully come into next
weekend strong."
