T
he 2015 Grand Prix of
Qatar was heralded as a
watershed moment for the
58-year-old FIM Motocross
World Championship. Monster
Energy Kawasaki Racing Team's
Ryan Villopoto represented the
most decorated and renowned
import into the series in the
modern era. He joined an official
entry list of 27 other riders in
the premier class—MXGP—of
which 18 know what it takes to
win a Grand Prix and a hefty
22 have experience of uncork-
ing GP podium champagne. In
the pre-event press conference
promoters Youthstream, the FIM
and representatives of the seven
factory teams all talked of how
2015 was going to set a new
benchmark of quality and raise
the level of performance even
higher.
"I'm a fan of MX and I have
watched many past races and
I have to say that I think this is
the strongest season ever," said
TM Racing's Davide Guarneri.
"There are 16 factory bikes and
I don't think this has ever hap-
pened in the sport."
