off-road loop revealed that we
were usually less tired after rid-
ing the KTM, mainly because of
the way it puts its power to the
ground—smoothly and control-
lably.
The FX has a more aggres-
sive power delivery than the
KTM, hands down. It's a fast
revving engine that's probably
best suited for more aggressive
riders. The Yamaha's motor is
very spunky. Bottom-end power
delivery is great when you need
instant throttle but might be a
little too jumpy when the ter-
rain calls for a smooth throttle
hand. Midrange is good, too—re-
ally good. It pulls hard and gets
through the R's quickly. Top-end
is impressive, as well, but the
FX's engine signs off sooner and
makes less peak horsepower
than the XC-F. Still, it's a great
motor with lots of zest.
