40 Years Ago March 11, 1975
40 years ago we previewed the upcoming Daytona Bike Week, with a focus on
World Champion Giacomo Agostini and "The Kid," Kenny Roberts, who were
set to square off once again... We ride the new Moto Villa MV 250 and MV 480
– an exercise in sheer Italian horsepower, while Larry Langley showed us how
to turn a "foo-foo bike into a genuine enduro-type motorcycle"… Jimmy Ellis
and Steve Stackable were the big winners at the opening round of the Yamaha
Super Series of Motocross in Dallas, Texas,
which took place in front of 48,000 people at a
packed Texas Stadium.
30 Years Ago March 13, 1985
Kawasaki's GP-Z900 Ninja graced the cover 30 years ago, piloted by Cycle
News editor John Ulrich… Suzuki's George Holland bested Erik Kehoe at
Gatorback to earn his career-first AMA National Motocross victory in the open-
ing round of the 1985 series... Jeff Matiasevich starred in the final round of the
CMC/Skoal Bandits Golden State Amateur Nationals, where he took the title in
both the 125cc and 250cc classes… Terry Cunningham piloted his Husqvarna
500AE Automatic to victory at the "Brickhouse 100" in Whitmore, South Caro-
lina, round two of the National Enduro Series… We interview Honda's AMA
National Superbike Champion Fred Merkel, who
talked about the upcoming Daytona 200.

Suzuki's completely re-styled 2005 GSX-R1000,
as tested at Suzuki's world launch in Australia, made the cover 10 years ago…
Ricky Carmichael and Chad Reed duked it out at the Georgia Dome, with
Carmichael emerging to take his sixth Supercross win of the season. Mean-
while Grant Langston took the 125cc win – his first in nearly four years… Local
boy Billy Russell topped the Quicksilver Enduro – round one of the National
Enduro Championship… The World Superbike Championship got underway in
Qatar with Troy Corser and Yukio Kagayama splitting wins… We also test the
Ducati Multistrada 620 and the Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 Nomad.
20 Years Ago March 8, 1995
Triumph's Trophy 4 split the cover with Atlanta Supercross winner Mike
LaRocco and MotoGP star Kevin Schwantz 20 years ago… The Triumph brand
finally made its way back to US soil, starting with the new 1200cc sport-touring
machine… We also test ride Yamaha's 1995 YZF600R… Ty Davis topped the
Quicksilver Enduro in California, round one of the National Enduro Series…
