third fastest, but still fell short of
his own expectations.
"I just had a steady and con-
sistent day but I'm not too happy
with it at all," said Russell, who
was top American at last year's
ISDE in Argentina. "I felt like I
rode really good, but I didn't get
any test wins, so there's some-
thing wrong with that. It was a
long day and to ride as well as I
did and be as far off of Andrew's
pace as I was in that last test
is pretty disappointing. Andrew
rode really well today, he was re-
ally consistent and going fast but
I still feel I was going really fast
so I'm just kind of searching."
One thing that Russell was
pleased with was that his runner-
up finish moved him into the
points lead, seven points ahead
of DeLong after two rounds.
"I'm just going to go to Texas
and see how it goes," said Rus-
sell. "Hopefully I can get this
thing figured out."
Grant Baylor rounded out the
podium, and like DeLong, was
making amends for a disap-
pointing ride at round one of the
series where he finished ninth.
The N-Fab AmPro Yamaha rider
won two tests and finished the
race just over a minute behind
Russell.
"This is a lot better than ninth,"
said Baylor. "I was way off the
pace in the first test; I think An-
drew got me by about two min-
utes in there, and I was about a
minute-and-a-half off of Kailub,
so it wasn't looking good at that
point. I was able to pick up the
pace in the second test and then
I won the next two tests, so I was
starting to gain on Kailub but I
just ran out of time."
Four-time series champ Rus-
sell Bobbitt turned in a consistent
ride, but suffered a mechanical
problem in test two that cost the
FMF/KTM rider a couple of min-
utes, leaving him 16
th
in the test.
