was on his game and never

MAR VIN'S THE MAN
It wasn't a complete walk in the
park for Musquin, however, but it
started off pretty well. Notching
the fastest qualifying time, things
started out as planned for the
GONE RETRO!
The Atlanta II Supercross was
deemed retro day and many of the
teams, racers and fans took part in
one form or another, paying hom-
age to the styles and trends of the
past.
Some of the racers wore new
gear but with old-school colors, lo-
gos and styles, and gear companies
like Fox and Answer certainly had
fun with it, fitting some of their spon-
sored riders in gear like those worn
by Damon Bradshaw and Ricky
Johnson. Even Chad Reed got in
on the fun by riding out for opening
ceremonies on a Kawasaki KX125
two-stroke with lighted wheels.
The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/
Kawasaki Team had fun with it, too.
"We went up on the showroom
and looked at all the bikes to pick
one that would still work using the
Monster Claw," said PC owner
Mitch Payton, "and that was the
2000 KX125. To make it look more
authentic, we took Monster off
the shroud and put Pro Circuit to
the top, and Monster to the front
fender. The bike looks really good,
and there are some other ones too.
Chad Reed's bike looks really good
too!"
Jeremy Albrecht and the crew at
JGRMX got in on the act. "I just like
doing different stuff," said Albrecht,
the team manager. "We had fun with
it last year when we did a yellow and
black bike. This weekend is kind of
supposed to be a '90's theme so
we went with that. It's fun for us."
Dave Osterman, the team man-
ager for the Discount Tire/TwoTwo
Motorsports Team, said, "It's excit-
ing and I actually really dig the way
they look. Lars Larson (mechanic)
and Chad went off the look of Mike
Kiedrowski's old factory bike, and
the seat cover is just the icing on
the cake. It's just a cool deal and
everybody really jumped through
their rear ends to make this thing
happen. The look came out nice."
Osterman talked about the
KX125 that Reed rode. "He Insta-
grammed a video of him riding the
125 in Florida last week. A local guy
loaned us a bike and we did it up a
little bit. The guys cut out graphics;
it was a total last-minute thing. We
got the lit wheels through Dubya –
another sponsor of ours. I think the
people are going to dig it, nobody
has heard that sound in a stadium in
a while!"
It was indeed a big hit with the
crowd.
In support of retro
night, Chad Reed
rode a Kawasaki
KX250 two-stroke
during opening
ceremonies.
