to-back Atlanta wins. However,
Peick, a rider who is never
known to back down easily, an-
swered back with a pass of his
own, doing so with a quick look
over at Reed over a triple.
Reed's chances for a Geor-
gia sweep went out the window
when he slid out soon after. He
got up quickly but not before a
number of riders had already
slipped past. He finished the
second lap in 13
th
place, but
he would claw and scratch his
way through the pack for the
remainder of the race and finish
seventh, one spot behind his
teammate, Josh Grant.
Peick, meanwhile, continued
to hold his own, until things
started to unravel a bit for him.
He surrendered the lead to
Dungey on the sixth lap, but he
now also had Eli Tomac, Trey
Canard, Broc Tickle and Jason
Anderson breathing down his
neck. Canard, Tomac and Tickle
all eventually got around him,
and Anderson was looking to do
the same when he made a bold
pass attempt—more like t-boned
him—that actually left Peick on
the ground. Peick took the inci-
dent all in stride.
"I'm not fired up," he said. "I'm
just pumped to get out there and
get a holeshot for the team; you
know, first one of the season."
Conditioning has been an
issue for Peick after injuring his
foot and MCL, so a full 20 laps
of charging is still tough for him
right now. "I'm just trying to get
back up to speed. It's just been
a little bit of a struggle getting
