INTERVIEW
TEAM MANAGER/RACER LARRY PEGRAM

have great response from every-
body in the paddock. Even the
journalists."
So how about the budget?
What are the differences be-
tween running an AMA team
compared to World Superbike?
"It would probably be more
than double," he said. "A big part
of it is the travel, and a big part
of it too is that in the AMA I could
have—for a one-rider team (or
even a two-rider team)—three full
time guys that I pay full time. The
rest of the guys could fly in on
the weekends. Here you cannot
do that. We have 12 employees
this year, and it is a big part of
the cost. Shipping, travel, paying
for visas, it really adds up."
In addition to his race team
Pegram has had his own reality
TV show—"Superbike Family" that
goes behind the scenes with him
and his family and their efforts in
running a race team. So when will
we see the "Superbike Family's"
European adventures?
"It will probably be towards the
end of the year before it comes
out," Pegram answered. "Hero is
really keen on us doing it so they
are going to be putting it on TV
in India as well. That is a market
obviously everybody wants to
get into. My job is to race mo-
torcycles, but my other job is to
promote Hero and EBR, and the
other sponsors. I try to do that in
any way I can and doing the races
does not guarantee that you can
give them the exposure you want
to give them. The TV show does,
so that is good for us." CN
"I GUARANTEE IN A
MONTH AND HALF
THEY [HIS CREW]
DID NOT PUT IN
LESS THAN 20-HOUR
DAYS. THEY WERE
FLAT OUT AND IT
SHOWED IN THE
TESTING, IT SHOWED
THAT WE WERE WAY,
WAY BETTER THAN
EVERYTHING WAS
LAST YEAR."
