WORLD SUPERBIKE
2015 SEASON PREVIEW
PREVIEW

Superbike on a more con-
sistent level again, then the
new technical rules will have
worked as intended. This and
the Honda will be the litmus
test of just how close the top
World Superbike machines
are to each other.
With new faces in the
garage, more podiums are
possible and even wins are
far from unattainable for the
perennial underdogs.

The 14-round World Superbike
calendar was shortened a by
a round with the loss of the
proposed Moscow Raceway
event, but everything else
seems solid so far. An expen-
sive year for travel, but the
future lies in new territories.
A new round in Thailand, a
month after Phillip Island, will
be a real novelty, but will also
deliver real points. In the past
few years the margins of final
championship victory have
been 6, 23 and 0.5 points–
less than one full race win
each time.
With winter test lap times
close and already making
up for the mandatory drop
in horsepower, Phillip Island
should be sprinkled with even
more spice than usual. There
are always surprises at the
Island, some weird results
even, but as a way to start a
new season, racing at Phillip
Island is peerless. CN
