critical ingredient to success this
year. After a quick sprint, Dungey
found himself two or three sec-
onds up on the pack, and from
there it was just a matter of man-
aging the race.
"Obviously, the start really
helped us out big time," said
Dungey. "I've got to say, if we
weren't in the lead at first it would
have been a lot harder to be able
to get out front and get away. Be-
cause I was able to get the hole-
shot, do all the rhythm lanes the
first lap, kind of opened up a little
bit of a gap for me. I saw [Davi]
Millsaps was behind and mainly
I was just trying to open up that
gap as much as I could. As that
race gets to the end, it gives that
second rider less hope to get
to you. I was just trying to keep
that comfortable pace. I felt like
I could kind of control the race a
little bit, up the pace if I had to
here and there."
With a comfortable lead and
the race in hand, Dungey was

Speaking of the Rockstar Energy
Racing Husqvarna Team, Martin
Davalos made his 250 debut on
the FC250. He finished second in
his heat race but went down early in
the 250 main. He was running 14
th
when the race was red-flagged, then
he picked off five more riders to get
into ninth by the end. "The track was
pretty tricky," said Davalos. "It had
traction in some spots and it didn't
have traction in other spots. I got a
great start but got taken out in the
second corner. I couldn't find a good
flow to get going, then we obviously
had the restart. This was a tough
track to make a pass on anyone. I
just kind of rode around for ninth. I'm
looking forward to next week's race
in Atlanta."
The Arlington track featured new
dirt for this year's race, a mixture
of 40 percent clay and 60 percent
sand that the riders, including Ryan
Dungey, seemed to like. "Hands
down better dirt," said Dungey. "I
was impressed. Especially right now
as we're standing on it you can see
it's still somewhat tacky. The only
spots that got really hard are the
ones that got beat down. I was very
impressed, especially seeing past
years how rock-hard that dirt is. This
is a more sandy base and the other
one was more clay. It's just funner, I
think."
Switzerland's Arnaud Tonus made
his U.S. debut on the Monster Ener-
gy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki Team and
was quick to impress. The former
GP rider was the second-quickest
250 rider in practice and went on to
finish fourth in his heat race. In the
main, he tangled with a couple of rid-
ers just two turns into the race and
pressure and kind of
cracked. That's just stuff
we'll have to work on and
work during the week.
Just get back at things
and do a little suspen-
sion testing to get things
dialed in a little bit better.
I think everything should
start falling into place. "
In his first Supercross since
2013, Marvin Musquin flat-out
dominated the first 250 East
main of the year. Here he leads
everyone away after a re-start.
