CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "I can't imagine what it's like for Anaheim fans to have three races available to go watch, or Atlanta with two rounds." Yamaha R1 It's rare that I would sit down to write to one of my four magazines that I subscribe to. Having said that I really appre- ciate you guys getting this to my email every Monday night, as I have been reading Cycle News since the 1991 Daytona Bike Week. It's never disap- pointed me through the years, except my wishing I had found it earlier in my life, but now you have the history of it [archives] and it's just too cool. Anyway thank you so much for a continuously great rag. Now to get on with the pur- pose of the letter is Mr. Scay- sbrook's take on the '09-'14, big-bang Yamaha YZF-R1 never having made the mark: 1: Even after Mr. Scaysbrook acknowl- edges Mr. Ben Spies won the Superbike World Champion- ship on the brand new cross- plane crank-powered '09, as well as Mr. Josh Hayes and Mr. Josh Herrin won champi- onships and championship on this big-bang-motored R1. 2: Motorcyclist magazine voted the '09 R1 Motorcycle of the Year and in 2010 it got an al- ternate Best Sport/Superbike alongside the BMW, of course. 3: Heck even all the folks at Sport Rider raved about the '09 Yamaha YZF-R1. I get the simple fact that Mr. Scaysbrook wanted to put emphasis on the brand new 2015 Yamaha, but I was able to ride a 2010 and the 2012 at Daytona, and I really fell in love with the power characteristics of that crossplane crank motor, having grown up riding mostly Japanese Yamaha two-strokes of the '60s and '70s, or what I still believe was the golden era of motorcycling, and I am sure I am not the only one who feels that way. Eric R. Christopherson Titusville, Florida Super Supercross Love your Supercross cover- age. It's so nice to look for- ward to your Monday digi issue every week. Yeah, sure, the 2015 Super- cross season is missing some famous names like James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto, but the competition this sea- son has been fun to watch as a fan. The Great Pacific North- west fans, unfortunately, don't have Seattle Supercross this year, so I've been watching coverage even closer on FX1 and Cycle News. I can't imag- ine what it's like for Anaheim fans to have three races avail- able to go watch, or Atlanta with two rounds. Hope those fans realize what they have in their back yards. It's also great to see Canard's passion, Dungey's consistency, the rise of Cole Seely, and the heart of Cooper, Roczen and Tomac to fight for wins. It all makes for great racing. Jimmy Z (aka James "Bone- crusher" Smith) Puyallup, Washington Dallas Supercross Thoughts I get pretty excited seeing Roger DeCoster there with KTM, the riders, and the whole team. The memories I have of watching him and guys like Joel Robert roost dirt at me through the fence are the best and unforgettable. Marvin Musquin was the surprise of the night for me. I know how difficult it is to come back strongly after an ACL injury. Hope it's not a fluke. Justin Bogle did great, too. You can't help but like Ryan Dungey, he just has that calm/ cool thing going on. I didn't think he'd do a heel clicker! I'm really missing the fact of no Seattle round, but when the racing is this good, even the heat races, I'm happy I can watch it and then come here [cyclenews.com] to see what all you guys think.
