crashes that made you cringe.
So it was no surprise that the
young rider from North Carolina
sat out the second qualifying
session.
Would Webb make the main?
That too was not for sure, but
Webb said he was going to try
and race. And race he did.
The injured 250 red-plate
holder managed to have a
decent heat race, finishing a
conservative fourth. And to make
sure the pain was worthwhile
Webb needed to just tough it out
and finish 13th to keep his points
lead going into the 250 West
Series break,
but Webb got off to a great
start and was in a solid second
place behind rival Tyler Bow-
ers on the Monster Energy Pro
Circuit Kawasaki. Then a switch
clicked and Webb decided to go
for the win.
"I wasn't going to race to-
night," Webb said. "My crash
was gnarly and I'm just thank-
ful to walk away from it. I knew
tonight was going to be a fight. I
told myself I can hurt as much as
I want tomorrow, but there's no
better feeling than winning."
Shortly after Webb passed
Bowers for the lead, TLD/
Lucas Oil/Red Bull/KTM's
Shane McElrath followed suit
to advance to second and earn
his first Supercross podium of
his career.
"It's a relief, especially since
we're just going into the break,"
McElrath said about finishing
second. "I was not looking for-
ward to going into the break with
another bad finish. My riding's
been good, I just haven't been
happy with the end result. But fi-
nally it felt good to put everything
together."
So what happened to Bow-
ers?
"I was tired man," Bowers
explained. "I've got a lot of stuff
going on and been taking a few
weeks off because of it. I just
didn't have it in the tank. I caught
a little problem earlier in the sea-
son and we've been dealing with
it. Just ready to recharge the
batteries on this break and then
come into the last two recharged
and come in and try and pull off

teammate Josh Grant (33) in the
second Semi, causing Grant to run
off track and into the LCQ.

of the 250 West main but got
shuffled back to third.
