WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

tion of mistakes and lapped
traffic that got in the way of Roc-
zen's counter-attack on Canard.
"Trey [Canard] just got me
there and it was nice, fair rac-
ing," Roczen said. "I kept mak-
ing mistakes. I was really mad
at myself. It's a tricky track, but
overall it was a good race. He
got me there in the beginning
and I just stayed right there. I
think in the end the lappers kind
of screwed me a little bit.
And while for Roczen, second
wasn't ideal, he'd take it after
being podium-less for the previ-
ous two rounds.
"I just needed that race to get
back up here," Roczen said.
"I'm really happy actually with
that second place and gained
a couple points which is good.
I'm happy to go back East now.
It's going to be a little bit more
mellow."
Another thing to be happy
about—gaining a couple of points
on red-plate holder, Red Bull
KTM's Ryan Dungey.
"I wish it would have been
three more, but step by step,"
Roczen said. "Anything we can
gain is good."
Dungey ran into the same
problem as Roczen. He started
to close the gap on the lead duo
only to have lapped traffic get
in the way of his charge to the
front.
"We got a decent start, wasn't
the greatest, but we were able
to make our passes happen
quick and try to really put in
good laps," Dungey said. "I got
into third and started catching
Kenny and then by the lap 15
mark within a couple seconds
the lappers got pretty bad.
Both of us had to deal with it so
it wasn't like one man. Overall
for what it was today I thought it
was a good night."
Dungey also looks forward
to heading east. And he heads
east with a nine-point lead in
the championship over Roc-
zen.
"I'm excited," Dungey said.
"I'm an East Coast guy. I love it.
I love going that way. We had a
good West Coast swing. I feel
like leaving here with the points
is definitely what we wanted to
do, and with a win. I think it's
really important we build. It's
still early in the season, a lot of
racing left to do, but we're in
a good spot. That's where we

and jumped off the track," Anderson
said. "I came back and ended up
10th. Hopefully I'll come back with
good results next weekend. I defi-
nitely rode better than last weekend,
and all I can ask for is progression
until I'm on top."
It's not always easy being the team
owner, but perhaps less easy for the
rider when his team owner edges
him off the track in a Semi race. And
that's what happened between Dis-
count Tire TwoTwo Motorsports team
owner Chad Reed and rider Josh
Grant in the second 450 Super-
cross Semi race in San Diego. Reed
straight away after the race said it
was the last thing he wanted to do.
Grant said that he was playing it safe
and that's where Reed got him.
Trey Canard (41) passed
Ken Roczen (94) for the
lead on lap four and held
him off to take the win.
