GOLFING FOR A CAUSE
O
n the day before
the San Diego
Supercross, RCH
Racing co-owner
Carey Hart hosted
a golf tournament
at the home of his
team's title sponsor,
Sycuan Casino and
Golf Resort. With
bragging rights and
some serious swag
at stake, 27 four-man
teams ponied up this
year to compete, with
all proceeds going to
benefit the Road2Re-
covery foundation.
With awards such
as the "Smooth In-
dustries Straightest Drive," "Go-
Pro Longest Putt" and "Lucky
Scooter Closest to the Pin," there
were plenty of reasons for play-
ers to break out their A-game.
Under a clear blue sky, that
is exactly what the RCH-2 team
did, shooting an 18-under par
round of 54, and then winning a
three-way playoff on the second
extra hole. The three-man team
had no margin for error, since
they had no fourth man's throw-
away score on the hole. This put
extra pressure on Broc Tickle
who admittedly does not hit the
links as much as his playing part-
ners. "AJ (Sjostrom) and Mike
(Glennie) are really good play-
ers, but I honestly haven't played
in four or five months. I'm pretty
stoked with the way I played that
playoff hole, because I hadn't hit
any really good irons out on the
course. I kind of relied on these
guys all day and then it was all up
to me at the end," Tickle said. "I
hit it decently out of the sand and
only needed to two-putt after AJ
drained his chip shot for birdie."
The Sycuan Tribal 2 team of Jus-
tin Muse, Fred Costello, Adam
Sampson and Clint Higgins fin-
ished in second place.
Third place went to the Dunlop
Tire team, comprised of six-time
AMA National Motocross Cham-
pion Broc Glover, former factory
Husky rider Charles Halcomb,
Mike Gilliland and John Saggau.
"They earned it, with two birdies
and a bogie on that playoff hole,"
said Glover, a fiercely competi-
tive golfer. "Our 18-under was
good for the win last year, but
only got us in a playoff this time,"
said Halcomb, adding, "so now
we ended up second loser".
Other notable entries were
RCH 1 (Hart, Ken Roczen, Pete
Fox, Steve Astephen), finishing a
respectable 14-under par.
As Halcomb loaded his clubs
and hit the road, Glover and
his other two playing partners
grabbed a couple of carts and
headed back out on the course
to get ready for next year's tour-
nament.
