IN THE WIND P38 AMA HALL OF FAMER PASSES A MA Motorcycle Hall of Famer and longtime patron of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, Melbourne J. Wilson, passed away on February 2 at the age of 94. His death was preceded in passing by his wife and fellow Hall of Famer Margaret Wilson last July. The couple was award- ed the AMA Dud Perkins Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. "As American motorcycling's first couple and two of the sport's greatest benefactors, Mike and Margaret Wilson were without peer," said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. "Mike, along with Margaret, not only lived life on two wheels to the fullest, but he gave back to the sport in many ways, which included their lasting contributions to the Hall of Fame, where their story will live on in perpetuity. Born on March 2, 1920, Mr. Wilson started racing dirt track as a novice in 1939. Following his service in World War II as a fighter pilot, Mr. Wilson, along with Mrs. Wilson, opened Wilson's Motor- cycle Sales, a Harley-Davidson and later a Honda dealership, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mr. Wilson returned to compe- tition and won the Iowa TT State Championship in 1956 as an ex- pert-licensed dirt tracker. He was the last racer to enter the Peoria TT on a 74-cubic-inch Harley-Da- vidson in 1958. Following a quarter-century running a successful business, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson began fo- cusing their efforts on preserving the heritage of motorcycling and were instrumental in the creation and promotion of the AMA Motor- cycle Hall of Fame and the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Muse- um, including commissioning the timeless bronze sculpture "Glory Days" that serves as the center- piece of the Hall of Fame itself. M ike Kidd Sports Agency, LLC says it has created a new form of racing called Scramblecross, a unique con- cept that it says takes moto- cross back to the basic as orig- inally introduced—as a sport utilizing natural terrain without the addition of triple jumps or large man-made berms. Mike Kidd, creator of the AMA National Arenacross Se- ries, says, "Arenacross was created to fit the gap between outdoor motocross and Super- cross. I feel Scramblecross will the fill the gap between today's high-speed technical motocross tracks and cross country." Kidd added, "Scramblecross will fit the need of riders wanting to experience racing at a much slower pace along with the week- end warrior that doesn't have the time or money to spend wanting to be the next superstar." A variety of classes will be of- fered from beginner to expert, with awards given to the top five in each class and purse money for experts. The inaugural year will fea- ture 10 events at two locations near the Dallas/Fort Worth me- troplex; Askey Ranch in Deca- tur and the Poolville Ranch in Poolville.
