MARQUEZ SETS
BLISTERING TIME
A
t the end of the first MotoGP pre-season test of
the year at Sepang International Circuit it was
more of the sameāMarc Marquez still setting the
bar as the fastest man in the paddock. The Repsol
Honda man laid down a 1:58.867 on the final day
of the three-day test, breaking the qualifying record
(1:59.791) that Marquez himself set last year.
"When I saw that I had gone round in the 1:58s
it was a special moment," Marquez said. "It was
not a perfect lap, because I think that such a thing
does not exist. And I even had a new tire ready to
go back out again. But when I saw the lap time I
did not even try again, because you don't get more
information by going faster at these tests."
The reigning World Champion went on to say
that more important than the fast lap was the race
simulation he did later on, and perhaps more wor-
rying for his competitors.
"We did a race simulation later on, which also
went very well and was perhaps even more impor-
tant than a single lap. During the race simulation
we tested different mapping and in every part we
tried different things. The positive is that with the
new bike we are already at the same level as in
