GOLDEN GETS READY
M
otocrosser and X Games
gold medalist Vicki Golden
hopes to be the first female to
qualify for a 250 Supercross main
event when the next round of the
Monster Energy AMA Supercross
Series rolls into AT&T Stadium in
Arlington, Texas, February 14.
Golden sealed her involve-
ment in Supercross when she
got her SX endorsement last year
in the Arenacross series. Ever
since then, she's had an eye on
this race.
"It's awesome," Golden said
recently. "It doesn't really make a
difference that I'm the first wom-
an; I guess it's more being the
only one. It really makes it more
prestigious in my eyes that I have
the talent and courage to go up
against men in one of the most
aggressive sports on earth; Mon-
ster Energy Supercross. I think
part of it also is that now no one
can tell me I can't race [Super-
cross] or that I'm only there be-
cause someone gave me an ex-
emption. I met the qualifications
like every other guy that will be
out there.
"It's a lot to take in, thinking
about trying to race in Super-
cross," said Golden. "It's a big
step for me so I really want to be
smart and well prepared for it. I
think it's going to open up a lot of
doors for me. I can't wait to see
what happens and where this
goes."
The annual visit to AT&T Sta-
dium will mark the opening race
of the Eastern Regional 250
SX-class Championship, which
Golden has entered to compete.
While Golden is being realistic
about her expectations in what
will be her first outing on a full-
scale Supercross track, she rec-
ognizes the greater significance
of her Supercross debut.
"I do [understand how signifi-
cant this accomplishment is] and
I'm grateful for it," Golden said.
"It really provides inspiration for
younger girls, so hopefully this
gender barrier breaking doesn't
stop with me and it continues to
happen in the future. It's been
a tough journey for sure, but if
it were so easy then it wouldn't
mean as much."
Vicki Golden will compete in the
opening round of the Eastern
Regional 250cc Supercross Series
in Arlington, Texas, February 14.
