t the Castiglione del Lago
circuit in Italy, former MX1
World Champion David Philip-
paerts took a somewhat surpris-
ing win at round two of the Ital-
ian Motocross Championship
Series, February 8. The veteran
racer scored the MX1-class vic-
tory over Husqvarna's Max Nagl,
and Yamaha factory riders Jer-
emy Van Horebeek and Roamin
Febvre.
Defending MXGP World
Champion Red Bull KTM's An-
tonio Cairoli rounded out the top
five. Gautier Paulin, the opening-
round winner, did not compete.
In the MX2 division, Tim Gajser
took top honors over Benoit Pa-
turel and Alessandro D'Angelo.
In the Elite Class, which com-
bines both the MX1 and MX2
classes, Nagl grabbed the victo-
ry over Tommy Searle and Philip-
paerts.
Jordi Tixier made his Monster
Kawasaki Team debut a winning
one at the Hawkstone Park In-
ternational Motocross in Great
Britain, February 8. Tixier won
both motos, while teammate,
American Thomas Covington fin-
ished fifth in the first moto. He
was running fourth in the second
moto before suffering a couple
of small crashes and pulling out.
Rockstar Energy Suzuki's
Kevin Strijbos, Clement Desalle
and Glenn Coldenhoff (in his big-
bike debut) made up the podium
in the MX1 class in what was their
first big race of the year. Strijbos
won both motos as well as the
Superfinal, which pits both the
450s and 250s together in one
race, with the 250s getting a
head start.
Desalle was second, followed
by the first 250 of Trixier.
