CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "Any event where riders have to 'team up' to drag, push and pull each other around the course ceases to be competitive motorcycle racing in my opinion." Indy Mile Blues What a pity that the "powers- to-be" moved the Indy Mile date away from the MotoGP weekend. For me, it was what made Indy more attractive than Austin. Sure, the music city has its appeals and the track is phenomenal, but being able to watch flat track, MotoAmer- ica Superbike, and MotoGP in the same weekend was priceless. Never mind attract- ing the new hot-shoe crazy Europeans, still high from the Superprestigio. Sigh. John Chaves Via the Internet We hear you. With the MotoGP dates moved up a weekend there was a scheduling conflict with the Indiana State Fair and the promoter was unfortunately unable to secure the venue for that date... Editor Defending Diesel It always cracks me up that this guy [Ryan Dungey] is so consistently questioned as be- ing a legitimate member of the "elite" in MX/SX. He is what he is, and that is an unbeliev- ably consistent rider that is always in the title hunt and rarely out of contention in any given race. That's because he does not take big risks. Sure, big risks can win you races, but they can also knock you off, lose you gobs of points and cost you many, many races—all things that Ryan Dungey rarely encounters. That's exactly why he wears the red plate at present. Tom Crnkovich Via Facebook It's funny how many people were crying about R.V. [Ryan Villopoto] retiring and [James] Stewart being punished and were saying that Ken Roczen was just going to run away with the title this year. When I posed the question: "What about Diesel?" I got all kinds of negative responses, from him being washed up to a has-been that got lucky once. Obviously they were Stewart fans. Checkers or wreckers didn't even work for Rickey Bobby! Dale Rush Via Facebook Pushin's Not Racin' As a life long motorcyclist and huge fan of all forms of motor- cycle racing I don't think we do the sport any favors with events like King of the Motos. Any event where riders have to "team up" to drag, push and pull each other around the course ceases to be competi- tive motorcycle racing in my opinion. Look, I am all for rough, tumble, hard and nasty sec- tions to separate the men from the boys, but I feel there should be minimum standards applied that allow the majority of pro riders to ride the mo- torcycle. And certainly not be so difficult that it takes two or more guys pushing and pulling to get though a section. If the riders are riding then they are really racing, if they are walk- ing the bike, not so much. Also how hard would it have been to mark the course with water-based paint, flags, rib- bons or signs? As a kid I remember watch- ing destruction derby on TV from Ascot Park in Gardena and asking my Dad, "Why do they do that?" (destroy per- fectly good running cars). My Father replied, "Because they are idiots." I love motorcycles and the motorcycle community, but calling King of the Motos a race makes all of us look like idiots. J. D.
