another good start and that made it a lot easier for myself. This time I didn't get the lead quite as fast, but it was still a solid ride and it was fun." He was even more fired up at the gate before the complete restart, but due to some misinfor- mation about the reason behind the red flag. "Somebody said that somebody crashed on purpose to get a red flag," he said. "That's what I heard. So I was real ticked; got to talk some smack on the gate, I guess." In reality, the red flag was called because of a gate malfunc- tion at the start for Zach Osborne and the red flag/complete restart decision was the correct call. The frustration for Webb, however, was not the call, but how long it took to get the red flag for the gate malfunction. "It's crazy that it took a half a lap for a black flag to get thrown around, but it took five or six laps to get a red flag," he said. "That's what I was a little con- cerned about. After I saw what had happened, they knew that happened within two laps. Why not do it right away? Obviously five laps isn't a lot, but when you're out front and your heart rate's so high, you're just getting started and to pull everybody off it's kind of a bummer." After all, when you're out there racing hard and have the lead, emotions are high. But Webb channeled those emotions into going out there and taking the lead again, and the win. "Luckily for me when I'm mad I ride well," he said. "It's just an awesome night for the whole squad. We won that race fair and square. My good buddy and teammate got third [Aaron Pless- inger] and my roommate [Cole] Martinez got 10th. Just an awesome night." So it was back-to-back weekends with a drama filled race for Webb. Webb's thoughts on not having a race without drama: "No, exactly. That'd be too easy." And speaking of drama and the previous round at Oakland, has the fire mellowed out between Webb and his training partner, Tyler Bowers? "I moved on," Webb answered. "That was last weekend. That was kind of my mentality the whole week. Obviously I regret; I spoke out of frustration. It wasn't too professional, but I apolo- gized. I think he's still a little upset about it. I guess a couple people said that—we had a thing on Fox Sports 1—I haven't seen it, but I heard it wasn't too good. So we'll see. I'm over it. I'm just out here trying to race, so hopefully he does the same." And to help cool things down they were on separate training schedules last week. "I think he [Bowers] got injured or something this week and I actu- ally didn't see him all week," Webb said. "Obviously we were going to stay away from each other the first couple days just to kind of let it go through. But it's all good." At the end of the day, Webb's win and Bower's misfortune—a crash that had him finishing 15th— gave Webb an 18-point lead in the champion- ship going into San Diego before the eight-week break, as the attention shifts to the East 250 Supercross class. "Yeah, it's nice," he said about his points lead. "We'll just take it one race at a time. It's fun. I'm enjoying riding Supercross right now." But Webb is also looking ahead to the out- door season and the preparation for it during the break. "It'll be nice, though," he said as he stood nearby last year's 250 Motocross Champion Jeremy Martin's bike with the number-one plate. "I'll start riding some outdoors and really focus on that. Obviously I was strong last year so I'll try to steal that plate right there." CN VOL. 52 ISSUE 5 FEBRUARY 3, 2015 P77 "I MOVED ON. THAT WAS LAST WEEKEND. THAT WAS KIND OF MY MENTALITY THE WHOLE WEEK. ...I SPOKE OUT OF FRUSTRATION. IT WASN'T TOO PROFESSIONAL, BUT I APOLOGIZED."
