VOL. 52 ISSUE 5 FEBRUARY 3, 2015 P97 "I didn't think I was going to be able to hold the lead that much, but I felt good," Thompson said. "I know I have the speed. I just have to work on my strength and endurance." (He eventually finished sixth, literally pushing his bike across the finish line after the sprocket broke away from the hub.) Bell's endurance and speed aboard his FMF/GPR Stabilizer/ MSR KX450F was unapproachable after taking over on the second lap. Third in the early going, the Baja champion bided his time. "I was just kind of sitting there, letting things shake out because it's always slick first thing," he said. "I thought Colton [Udall] was going to get Blayne, but then he tried to hug the inside and just lost the front end so that gave me second place. "I had a good back-and-forth battle with Blayne." But that didn't last long with Bell soon taking over for good: "From there I wanted to just lay it down and try to get a gap, and I was able to do that. It was just a smooth race. I didn't have any close calls out there. It was a really fun race; I really enjoyed it." (Above) After a mediocre start, Justin Jones blitzed the early going to secure second. (Left) Honolulu Hills Raceway has been very good to Robby Bell lately. Two weeks after winning the WORCS race there, he dominated the Big 6's WCGP. (Above right) Colton Udall repeated his third-place finish from Adelanto, though he got a much better start at Taft.
