CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
STORY AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARK KARIYA
R
icky Brabec and Gary Sutherlin put in a lot of miles together
on their bicycles, but they've rarely raced each other.
That's about to change this year as Sutherlin is one of
several fast newcomers to the Kenda/SRT AMA Hare & Hound
National Championship Series.

Briefly...
At least he's honest. While on the
podium, Gary Sutherlin confessed,
"The bomb run scares me, plain and
simple."
The Purvines Racing Beta team
(Nick Burson, Justin Morrow and
Axel Pearson) haven't received the
new 480 RRs yet, so the 2014 498
RRs remain in service. For the Ken-
da/SRT AMA West Hare Scrambles
Championship Series, however, the
team has received the new 430 RRs.

Husqvarna's Jacob Argubright sat
out another weekend as he contin-
ues to recover from the broken wrist
suffered at the series finale last year.
But he's still attending the race as-
sisting other Husky riders like his
fiance, Megan Blackburn, who fin-
ished second in her first Women A
National aboard her Dainty Daredev-
ils/Maxxis/MSR Husky FE 350.
Women A winner Nicole Bradford
will remain in California rather than
go home to Colorado, as she now
turns her attention to next weekend's
King of the Motos extreme enduro.
Five-time series champion Destry Ab-
bott rode his old KX500, though not in
the role of racer. Instead, he fastened
rabbit ears to his Shoei and played the
role of the hare. "I went about 15 miles
out then pulled over and just waited for
the leaders to come by. I didn't want to
make dust and mess with their race. I
did have a blast, though!" he said in a
Facebook post.
Ricky Brabec and Colton Udall
weren't the only ones who did a
San Felipe-Lucerne double over
the weekend. Morgan Crawford and
Winner Gary
Sutherlin
spent most
of the race
fighting for
the lead
with training
partner Ricky
Brabec.
