"Sierra Club Hosts 100-mile Enduro" is the title of a snarky race-report—the
Cycle News cover story 40 years ago (and no, it wasn't that Sierra Club)….
The issue offered a profile of "The Fast Kid In The Yellow Leathers," aka Kenny
Roberts, who already had three AMA Grand National Championships under his
belt at the ripe old age of 23… We also gave a thorough testing to a Montesa
250 enduro works bike—ISDT-style.
30 Years Ago February 6, 1985
Suzuki's "radical" RG500 street bike graced the cover of Cycle News 30
years ago, and we toured the inner-workings of the 500cc two-stroke pow-
erplant with a full teardown… The 1985 AMA/Miller High Life Supercross
Series kicked off, with Johnny O'Mara topping the San Diego opener in a
thrilling night of racing at Jack Murphy Stadium. It was the first season of the
"new" format with two 10-lap mains instead of one 20-lap race… Champion-
ship training with Brad Lackey continued with part five of his series.

Ricky Carmichael got his second cover in a row after winning Anaheim II;
defending 125 champ Ivan Tedesco nabbed his first win of the season... We
did a rare feature on four-wheeled racing as Kevin Schwantz, Wayne Rainey,
Eddie Lawson, Doug Chandler and Randy Mamola took on the Superstars of
Superkarts support race during the 2005 USGP… Mike Kiedrowski made his
return to WORCS and won on the all-new Suzuki RM-Z450.

The 1995 Sportbike Buyer's Guide was featured on the cover, with nearly
40 new bikes featured inside… We give our opinions of the new Kawasaki
ZX-6R, the Buell S2 Thunderbolt and Suzuki GSX-R1100… Supercross car-
ried on to the Minneapolis Metrodome, where Jeremy McGrath dominated
once again, and Damon Huffman topped the 125 class… The Cycle News
staff got together for a day-ride aboard an eclectic selection of test bikes,
from cruisers to sport bikes… Review of
the 1995 Granada-Dakar Rally, which saw
Stephane Peterhansel win yet again.
