IN THE WIND P36 lenge, placed them in a tie for the overall win on Friday night, but the scales tipped in Hayes' favor due to his second-main win. The action heated up again on Saturday night in Colorado. Chris Blose of the Team Babbitt's Monster Energy Kawasaki team got things started in the first main event by taking the holeshot and the early lead. Behind him, ThermoTec Yamaha's Bobby Ki- niry, Goerke followed suit while Husqvarna TiLUBE's Kyle Re- gal got out to a fifth-place start. Blose succeeded in leading the charge from start to finish, leav- ing Kiniry, Goerke and Regal to battle for second. Goerke went down after making contact with Regal, leaving Regal to take over third while Kiniry was able to de- fend his runner-up position. In the final main of the week- end, it was Regal's turn to grab the holeshot. Kiniry immediately moved in to challenge him for the lead, and the two spent the open- ing laps in a heated exchange, much to the sell-out crowd's de- light. Regal soon secured the lead and pulled away, leaving Kiniry in second, but both Hayes and Goerke got around him late in the race to take second and third. Kiniry's 2-4 finish, in addition to the Head 2 Head Challenge win, put him in a tie with Regal for the overall win on Saturday night. But Regal's 3-1 score gave him the nod (on account of his main event win). Unfortunately for Faith, he was not able to continue his strong momentum over the weekend af- ter a crash in the whoops. Faith did not finish the first main event, and he sat out the second main on Saturday night. In the Lites division, Herrlein and Blair treated the Colorado crowd to some bar-banging ac- tion, as well. After dominating on Friday night, Herrlein looked as though he was about to repeat his performance on Saturday. Her- rlein and Blair battled each other in the main, and began to gap the field. Herrlein looked as though he had the point secured, but he ran into trouble as they began to work their way through lappers. Herrlein made contact with anoth- er rider and broke off his shift le- ver, which left him stuck in fourth gear. Blair, who wasn't far behind, took advantage of the snafu and went on to take the win. Herrlein had to rely on defensive maneu- vers to maintain hold of second place over Scott Zont. Desipte Herrlein's strong per- formance over the weekend, he is contending the Eastern Regional Lites Championship, which left Blair to collect the li- on's share of points in Colorado Springs. Blair now leads the way in the West ahead of Brandon Glenn and Chase Marquier. In the Arenacross class (pre- mier class), Matt Goerke remains in control. Despite not having any main event wins under his belt after 5 of 20 races, the Babbitt's Kawasaki rider has shown he has the consistency to lead the championship. Hayes is second in points with 3 wins, followed by Regal in third (2 main event wins).
