2015 YAMAHA YZ250FX
RIDING IMPRESSION

means that it has no off-road-
sticker eligibility.
The FX is pretty much a
YZ250F ready to go GNCC rac-
ing (well, almost ready. We'll get
to that later). Compared to the
YZ, the FX is nearly the same
motorcycle. The FX shares the
YZ's engine, with its reversed
a motocross bike and convert it
into an off-road racer yourself,
but Yamaha has done all of that
converting work for you with the
FX, including doing some things
that you'd never be able to do to
your YZ on your own, like install a
six-speed tranny.
Yamaha markets the FX as a
closed-course competition bike,
which means it falls under the
same EPA and CARB jurisdic-
tion as a motocross bike, so you
don't see any smog equipment
or throttle stops on this bike. No
way. Instead, it's completely "un-
plugged" (unlike the WR250F).
Unfortunately for some, this also
(Above) The FX doesn't look much
different than the YZ250F, that's
because it's not. But it does have
a couple of important differences
like electric starting and a six-speed
gearbox. (Below) With a kickstand,
you can park the FX almost anywhere.
The 18-inch rear wheel is standard.
