MARC COMA TAKES FIFTH DAKAR TITLE
A
fter the shakeup at the end of
week one, the Honda-KTM
rivalry continued in the second
half of the 2015 Dakar Rally, with
leader Marc Coma of the Red
Bull KTM team fending off the
consistent pressure of HRC's
Paulo Goncalves. Coma, how-
ever, never yielded control of the
race, and held a strong point to
the finish, claiming his fifth ca-
reer Dakar victory.
Coma is now tied with his
archrival and former Red Bull
KTM teammate Cyril Despres
for most overall wins in Dakar.
For the first time in 10 years,
the Frenchman was not there
to challenge Coma, as Despres
contested this year's rally on
four wheels instead of two.
Coma's win came after two
long weeks of traversing ex-
treme terrain, extreme altitude
and extreme weather condi-
tions, which lasted right up
until the last day. The final stage
ended up being shortened when
torrential rain descended on the
