P112 40 Years Ago January 21, 1975 Long-travel suspension and new gas/oil suspension systems were all the rage by the mid-'70s, and we took a close look at some of this new and excit- ing technology for off-road and motocross racing… We featured three bike tests, including the Honda XL125 K1 playbike, the Honda CR125 M1 moto- crosser and the Yamaha DT 400 B dual purpose… We explored the myth of the "safe" family enduro after a young rider died from a crash in the Southern California desert. 30 Years Ago January 23, 1985 Jeff Ward was our featured rider on the cover 30 years ago. We were there when Ward took top honors in the 250cc class at the Golden State MX round at Sand Hill Ranch in Brentwood, California. AJ Whiting won the 125cc class and Broc Glover the 500cc class… Bob Hannah (250cc), Jeff Friz (125cc) and JoJo Keller (500cc) were the stars at the Florida Winter- AMA MX at Gainesville, Florida… ATK's Chris Crandall got a piece of the cover for winning the Whiskey Pete's World Championship Hare & Hound in Nevada. 10 Years Ago January 19, 2005 The 2005 AMA Supercross Series got off to a wet, cold and muddy start at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, where Amsoil/Honda's Kevin Windham came away with the dirty win. KTM's Nathan Ramsey won the 125cc class. The race also featured the return of Honda-mounted Jeremy McGrath (it was his first SX start in two years) and James Stewart's debut in the big-bike class. McGrath DNF'd and Stewart (Kawasaki) finished fifth… Ben Spies was the fastest at the Daytona Tire Test. Damon Huffman pocketed the lion's share of the $10,000 purse by winning the 250cc SX class. Craig Decker grabbed some cash of his own for winning the 125cc SX class… Jim Neese and Tim Ferry were the big winners at the Florida Winter MX opener at Gainesville.
