clubs putting those races on—the number of high-
profile GPs dwindled.
The city of Adelanto used to host one of those
mega-GPs but it missed the visitor dollars the
event drew, so city officials decided last year to
bring it back in a new and improved form. They
approached AMA District 37 officials to explore
the feasibility, got a positive response and
selected the So Cal Motorcycle Club to run it.
So Cal Race Referee Larry Klein said, "They
came in and offered [use of the Mavericks
Stadium baseball facility]; they helped out with
sponsorships of their own to raise money to help
cover everything they could like equipment [and
a local advertising blast]. They did a real nice job
accommodating us to be able to do a better race.
There were a lot of people involved with it."
The pre-race publicity indeed created a buzz
that proved irresistible to many, especially given
the fact that it would serve as the opening round
to the AMA District 37/MSR Big 6 Grand Prix
