SUPERCROSS MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES ROUND 1/JANUARY 3, 2015 ANGEL STADIUM OF ANAHEIM/ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA P48 push it a little harder in the begin- ning and not struggle for grip [on the slippery track]." The man of the night putting the young guys to shame was BTO Motorsport KTM's Andrew Short, who instead of letting the "it's a young guy's sport" get to him has embraced that notion with a nothing-to-lose, and a might-as-well-have-fun attitude. Perhaps fun is not only the en vogue secret to success, but the fountain of youth as the 32-year old was riding in top form, win- ning his heat race over the young Roczen and finishing fifth against a stacked field of youngsters. Battling for sixth was a pair of JGR Yamahas—Justin Barcia and Weston Peick. Although Peick was ahead most of the race, Barcia one-upped his teammate on the last lap. Roczen's team- mate Broc Tickle finished eighth, a worthy finish in his return from a near career-ending injury at last year's Toronto Supercross. Rounding out the top 10 was Motoconcepts/SmartTop's Mike Alessi and TwoTwo Motorsport's Chad Reed. Monster Energy Kawasaki's Davi Millsaps crashed out of fourth on lap five, remounted and crashed a second time in the sand section, this time involving Muscle Milk Honda's Cole Seely. Millsaps remounted again and finished 19 th to earn two cham- pionship points, while his team- mate Wil Hahn unfortunately was sidelined from an injury suffered in practice. GEICO Honda's Eli Tomac also had a rough night with two crashes in the main and took home one point with 20 th . Nelson's Night There's always a first time for ev- erything. And for Jessy Nelson, there's no way better to start the new year than your first Super- cross win. "It's huge! It's so surreal," Nel- son said about the win. "It's awe- some just to finally get it out of the way and get one for the team. I got Trey Canard (41) congratulates Roczen (94) before they head off to the podium with Anderson (21).
