ADELANTO GP RETURNS IN BIG WAY
J
ust after ringing in the New Year, thousands of
off-road racers and fans descended on Adel-
anto, California, January 2-4, for the revival of the
Adelanto GP. The Maverick's Stadium was host to
the classic off-road event, which was put on by the
SoCal MC and also served as the opening round
of the 2015 AMA District 37 Big 6 GP Series. Rac-
ers took on a fast and sweeping desert course with
a specially designed EnduroCross section inside
the Maverick's Stadium, which proved to be an
ideal vantage point for spectators.
Ty Davis, who lives just down the road, had a big
hand in helping the SoCal MC lay out and build the
course. Davis, of course, also did a fair amount of
racing at the Adelanto GP, and topped Saturday's
Vet Heavyweight Expert class.
Pro II rider Dalton Shirey took the overall win
in Saturday's West Coast GP Pro race, but it was
Gary Sutherlin who took top honors, and the big-
gest chunk of the $2000 purse, in the Pro race.
We will have full coverage of the Adelanto GP in
next week's issue.
