BRABEC
VOL. 51 ISSUE 50 DECEMBER 16, 2014 P223
It's just a way of life. Actually, yesterday I found that
[Kawasaki] told Bob [Bell of Precision Concepts]
that we don't get any bikes or parts budget for next
year, so I'm kind of—I don't know what I'm doing next
year. Who knows what I'll be on. Whatever I'm on,
I'm trying to do all three series again because I've
got to try to win them again. With Bonanza Plumb-
ing and Dean Potts, the only way I'd ride a KTM is if
KTM wants to do Baja next year with Dean's help,
Dean's support. We're waiting on that right now.
Right now, though, no factory ride or nothing. Just
doing privateer like I did this year. Things like that
make it hard to keep your head up. For next year,
when you ask me how I stay motivated, it's like hard
to get motivated when you know you have nothing
for next year. It's hard to stay motivated when you
hear that kind of stuff.
What scares you as a desert racer? And
conversely, what do you really look forward to
at a race?
I'm not really sure. Road crossings definitely are
scary. They're marked pretty well, but everywhere
I've raced, the only place with road crossings are
in Ridgecrest and Lucerne [both in Southern Cali-
fornia]. Every other National, there's really no road
crossings that are hazardous. Like Lucerne is defi-
way of life.
Actually, yesterday
I found that [Kawasaki] told
Bob [Bell of Precision Con-
cepts] that we don't get any
gut feeling I could do it if I
focused on it. I know finan-
cially the industry isn't that
good in off-road. That's what
I'm struggling with right now
is trying to find something to
ride next year.
It's fun to me. I like going
out there and hanging out
with my friends and racing.
(Right) Brabec is an
enthusiastic proponent of
the AMA National Youth Hare
& Hound Series, believing
the sport will only prosper
if families come out. Here,
he's volunteered to hold
the starting banner with
teammate Ty Renshaw for
a Youth race, while Race
Director Erek Kudla gets
ready to start the countdown.
(Below) Though he started
the season having never won
a National, Brabec ended up
with four victories and the
championship at the end of
the year.
