saw it, the only way he was ever going to catch five-
time champion Dave Schultz was to win a fourth title
and then go to work on another one.
Hines also carried extra motivation into the 2014
season after a disastrous 2013 season where he
failed to finish in the top ten for the first time in
his career. That miscue was the result of an NHRA
rules revision that forced the Vance & Hines team
to abandon their innovative four-valve V-Rod en-
gine program and return to a conventional two-
