Without teammate Charlie Mullins on the track, Russell was pretty much in a league of his own. INTERVIEW 2014 AMA GRAND NATIONAL CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPION KAILUB RUSSELL P200 In his first attempt at the se- ries during the Atlanta round, Russell failed to make the main, but got enough of a taste of the sport to know he wants to give it another try. "I still want to do Enduro- Cross, not something to fo- cus on—I'm not going to beat Taddy Blazusiak or Cody Webb, those guys are really on another level and they are phenomenal on a dirt bike with their skills, and they're really working hard at it, but I've started enjoying a lot, rid- ing that kind of stuff. I think I could be competitive at it. I was really overwhelmed there in Atlanta, and I strug- gled with that track, but we're going to regroup for next year and come back and do a couple more next year." Russell also has his eye on King of the Motos, which is in February. "I did that race last year and I was riding really well un- til my brake pedal bolt came out in the second moto, and I wasn't able to finish the race," says Russell. "There is some of that stuff that is question- able to even be riding down, let alone without any back brakes. It was a bummer because I was looking re- ally good, so I definitely want to do that race again. Other than that, I'll do a few races this winter and just train and get focused on the GNCC se- ries for next year." CN "I feel like it's a really good time to be an off-road racer right now."
