A
t the start of the season, Andrew De-
Long's name might not have been
one of the first to be shouted out
when it came time for pre-race predictions
as to who might emerge as this year's AMA
National Enduro Champion. Instead, those
names first called out were Charlie Mul-
lins, the defending champ, and four-time
champ Russell Bobbitt. And maybe even
Nick Fahringer and former champ Steward
Baylor. Heck, you could even add Mike Laf-
ferty's name to the mix of probable. After all
he would love to cap off his incredible ca-
reer with a record-setting ninth champion-
ship. Hey, stranger things have happened.
And when you throw in DeLong's seventh-
place finish at the series opener in South
Carolina, no one was really talking about the
23-year-old from Pennsylvania back in Feb-
ruary. Now, everyone is.
DeLong's chances, and just about ev-
eryone else's in the series for that matter,
got bumped up a notch when Bobbitt had
to withdraw from the championship after the
