veal the areas where we were having prob-
lems," Hines said. "My bike was very fast,
but it wasn't always consistent; it didn't al-
ways respond to the tune-up put in it and
we felt that was an area that needed to be
addressed. We didn't think that we could
go into the Countdown like that because if
you have one bad race during the Count-
down, it will probably cost you the cham-
pionship. We couldn't risk that happening so
we decided to build that new bike.
"We also looked at Eddie's bike," Hines
said. "It was a lot more consistent than
mine and he was qualifying number one al-
most everywhere we went. That told us that
we were missing something on my bike.
Like I said, building that new bike probably
wasn't totally necessary, but it forced us to
