field between the Harleys and Kawa-
sakis?
I think it [the rules change] was a long
time coming. In my eyes the Kawasaki
is getting better and better every year.
They took the restrictors out and they
got even more competitive on the Half-
Miles. I'm not going to sugarcoat it—on
the Miles the Kawasaki is tough. It still
has an advantage, but it's because of the
characteristics of the motor being liquid-
cooled, fuel-injected with an overhead
cam. I've said it before, they're racing a
modern engine and, although the Harley
XR750 is probably the best flat-track bike
ever made, we're still talking about a mo-
torcycle that's a little bit behind the times.
But the old Milwaukee iron just keeps
chugging along.
