INTERVIEW 2014 AMA ENDUROCROSS CHAMPION CODY WEBB P134 You've been able to jug- gle your schoolwork with your racing, which has to be a difficult feat. Talk about the problems of go- ing to college and main- taining a racing career. I have three semesters left, and for an engineer- ing major, that's the home stretch. It's been tough and I've been taking my time, it's not like I'm overloading myself. It's tough when I'm studying because I know my competitors are putting in all this hard work and I can't afford that time. But the good thing for me, I can look down the road at my future, and I'm not Ryan Villopoto so I'm not getting million dollar con- tracts, so I'm at a spot where I'm meeting a lot of people right now and I'm able to ride and train and race, but someday I won't have this, but I will have my degree to fall back on. Right now, though, it makes my life more stressful and it's difficult for me getting every- thing done. Next year the series is even longer, is that going to make a big difference? Yeah, I'm sure it will be, but I'm trying to set it up so the first half of the year I'm taking a heavier load and hopefully my final two semesters will be a bit easier. This Spring won't exactly be easy with you riding the Super- Enduro series. Yeah, that's six rounds and I'll be flying back and forth. It kind of sucks that the series starts so early, because I had to change around my contract with Beta. My contract was supposed to go to the end of the year, and I asked Beta if I could ride the first SuperEnduro on a Beta, since it's the right thing to do, and they just said to opt out of the contract early and go ahead and ride a KTM for the entire SuperEnduro Series. So the series starts in mid-December and then there will be some tough weekends, like I think I have to fly straight from Brazil back to Daytona to race. It's going to be tough doing that series, but I'm not alone. I think it's me, Tay- lor Robert, Ty Tremaine, and maybe Colton Haak- er. Will all of this leave you any time to ride tri- als in 2015? Yeah, I need to discuss that with the KTM folks and see if I can do that. For sure, I'm still go- ing to be on a trials bike some of the time and I'm going to use trials events as a cross-training tool. My plan as of now is to ride the whole MotoTrials Series. It's still fun for me to do. Although I'm not putting in the time that I did a few years ago, I still feel I have the skills, which I showed at the last MotoTrials National last year at the Trials Training Center when I won both rounds. What is the toughest part of what you're doing right now? I think it's time management. What do you enjoy most about it? I think what I enjoy most is be- ing at the races with my family and friends. You can see it in the pictures after the races, you can see how happy I am. CN "THIS YEAR EVERYONE HAS UPPED THEIR GAME INCREDIBLY." Hugs were running rampant at Ontario. Here, Webb gets one from his dad and legendary trials rider Kip Webb.
