INTERVIEW
2014 AMA ENDUROCROSS CHAMPION CODY WEBB
P128
nia, Webb clinched his first-ever
EnduroCross title, finishing the
eight-round series with a 12-point
advantage over five-time series
champ Blazusiak. And he did it
while juggling college classes.
(Cody is studying engineering at
San Jose State University.)
Cycle News spoke with Cody
the day after he clinched the
2014 GEICO AMA EnduroCross
title in Ontario, California.
Now that you've had some
time to think about it, how
does it feel to be the Enduro-
Cross Champion?
It's amazing. I would never
have dreamed this five years ago
when I started.
Last year, you injured your
foot just before the start of the
EnduroCross season, which
obviously affected your perfor-
mance on the track. This year
started off much better for
you. How prepared were you
going into this year's series?
I was fully prepared and I had
some momentum after the way
I finished up last year's series. I
ended last year's season strong
and I put in a lot of hard work dur-
ing the off-season, so I was basi-
cally ready to go for Vegas. I also
had a couple of big wins before
the season started, like at the
King of Motos.
After winning five-straight
EnduroCross Championships,
some have said that Taddy
Blazusiak isn't as fast as he
used to be, but Taddy says
that's not the case but that
everyone else has stepped up
their game. Do you think that's
the case?
Yeah, this year everyone has
upped their game incredibly. Like
Colton Haaker has always been
super fast, but this year he was
really consistent all year. I think
the only bad race he had was
the last race in Ontario, where
he actually went backwards from
where he started. Taylor Robert
has really stepped up, too. He's
healed up from his injuries and he
Webb started
off the year
with a win at
the season
opener in Las
Vegas. He
would go on
to finish on
the podium at
every race.
