special "test" areas, or elements,
which are lit up with suspended
lights powered by portable gen-
erators to enable the hundreds
of fans to watch the really excit-
ing parts of the race. In some of
these sections, spectators were
lined up five deep, cheering as
riders struggled to claw their way
up the gnarly climbs.
Colorado off-roader Ian Blythe
took the early lead in the morning
race, leading for a full lap before
waving Baylor into the lead on lap
two.
"I was hoping to learn the
pace by watching Stu but he
just dropped me once he got
around," said Bythe.
Baylor went on to take an easy
win, while Blythe held on for sec-
ond ahead of AirGroup Racing's
Nick Fahringer and KTM riders
Drew Higgins and Zach Ingram.
In race two, Blythe got off to a
bad start, but was leading when
the Pro pack roared into the
woods, followed by Baylor and
Fahringer. The three riders went
nose-to-tail for the remainder of
the race.
About a mile before the check-
ered flag, Baylor made a move
on Blythe to take the lead, but
Baylor got sideways in the grass
