P88 40 Years Ago December 10, 1974 It was the Thanksgiving weekend which can only mean one thing to off-road- ers—B-to-V! We featured a photo from the start of the annual Barstow-to-Ve- gas desert race to accompany our coverage. AC Bakken took the win over Mitch Mayes… The Trans-AMA MX Series wrapped up at Saddleback Park with Pierre Karsmakers, Roger DeCoster and Jim Pomeroy taking the wins… We paid tribute to Diane Cox for becoming the first female to attain an AMA expert license in flat track…. We tested the latest Maico 400 motocrosser. 30 Years Ago December 12, 1984 We traveled to Firebird International Raceway in Arizona to test the 1985 Kawasaki Ninja 600R, which was pictured in action with editor John Ulrich at the controls on the cover 30 years ago… We featured an interview with Trials National Champion Scott Head… The local motocross scene was heating up in California despite the recent closing of Saddleback Park. At Indian Dunes, however, you could find plenty of action in the Pro class, where Ed Arnett topped Willy Surratt and Gary DePillo in the 250 division. 10 Years Ago December 8, 2004 It was 10 years ago when the first EnduroCross race ran its course and Cycle News was there at The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. Ryan Hughes was the very first winner, and a photo of the Honda rider was featured on the cover. David Knight finished second and Mika Ahola third… Ty Davis finished off the WORCS series with a win in Idaho… We covered the Lake Elsinore Grand Prix, where Bobby Bonds took the big win in the Harvey Mushman 100. Spain's own six-time World Trials Champion Jordi Tarres had never won the event—until now… We featured Jay Springsteen in our Time Remembered piece. LOOKING BACK
