OFF ROAD
GEICO AMA ENDUROCROSS SERIES
FINAL ROUND/ NOVEMBER 22, 2014
CITIZENS BUSINESS BANK ARENA / ONTARIO, CA
P36
took three wins in 2014, it was Webb who was
able to minimize the damage and come up
with the consistency to get it done. Not once
did Webb finish off the podium this season.
A patient ride at the season finale in Ontario,
California resulted in a second-place finish
for Webb—more than enough to claim the
championship.
"Consistency wins championships," Webb
said. "I found that out tonight. I never came
off the podium this year. I won every heat
race in the championship except one. All the
bonus points definitely helped in my favor and
gave me the confidence coming into the final
round. It wasn't a very exciting race, but the
championship, on the whole, between three
of us was insane!"
Through the insanity, Webb was able to
avoid turmoil on the track – another key point
in coming out on top. "Chaos always hap-
pens and I stayed out of it this season," Webb
said. Especially in Ontario, Webb made the
conscious decision to not take any unnec-
essary risk. At one point in the main event,
Webb found himself side-by-side with Colton
Haaker, but immediately backed down and let
the JCR Honda rider by—much to Kip's cha-
grin.
"It was funny; I totally pulled off and let
Colton by," said Webb. "I didn't want any
monkey business going on out there. I looked
over at my dad and he's yelling at me to get
back at him. I threw up my hand at my dad
like, 'No! [laughs] I'm just going to hang out
back here! I'm totally safe.'"
Haaker went on to make a mistake two turns
later that let Webb by for second, which he
held to the finish.
Taddy Blazusiak
won the Ontario
final but it wasn't
enough to retain the
number-one plate,
which he has owned
the last five years.
