OFF ROAD ROUND 5/FINALE / NOVEMBER 13, 2014 ENSENADA, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO P68 SCORE WORLD DESERT CHAMPIONSHIP: 47TH TECATE SCORE BAJA 1000 Hengeveld was the next rider and it was up to him to chase down Samuels, but he was confident he could do so. Sure enough, the master of the night reeled in the Honda (with Samu- els now coping with light prob- lems), and rode away to victory in 24 hours, 24 minutes and 1 sec- ond. Samuels hit the finish line in 25:01:00. "We finally ended Honda's streak, and it feels good!" Brabec exclaimed. "It didn't come easy be- cause we were behind all day." Hengeveld added, "Our guys rode well today and the Honda team rode well today, too. We just never gave up." Almost overlooked in the grip- ping battle at the front was the superb ride by Class 30 win- ners Francisco Arredondo/Ryan Dudek/Shane Esposito/Chris Haines/Jay Rabjohn. The Bre- men Racing/Chris Haines Mo- torcycle Adventure CRF450X- mounted squad moved into third overall bike early and stayed there, finishing in a very respect- able 25:19:02. Class 30 runners-up Mor- gan Crawford/Kevin Murphy/ Jim O'Neal/Gerardo Rojas/Mark Winkleman took fourth overall in 28:32:39 on their PCT/Jim O'Neal Motorsports/Team Mon- key Business CRF450X while Class 40 winners David Glass/ Collie Potter/Mike Prunty/Ster- lyn Rigsby/Bill Sekeres rounded out the top five overall bikes in 30:43:01 aboard their Ikhana Group/Mike's Precision Welding/ MHP Fabrication CRF450X. CN My Own Race: 349X FRANCISCO ARREDONDO/RYAN DUDEK/SHANE ESPOSITO/CHRIS HAINES/ JAY RABJOHN 1ST CLASS 30/3RD OVERALL MOTORCYCLE "I'm pleased with the win, but when you're out there it doesn't feel like you're doing a good job," Dudek observed. "I made a few mistakes here and there, and it seems like everything is working against you out there. It was a struggle the whole way." 400X DAVID GLASS/COLLIE POTTER/MIKE PRUNTY/STERLYN RIGSBY/BILL SEKERES 1ST CLASS 40/5TH OVERALL MOTORCYCLE "We ran out of gas twice after using a lot of fuel keeping it pinned and trying to catch 410X (the Giovanni Spinali en- try)," Sekeres said. "The whoop section before Santa Rita was difficult, but it was a lot of fun. The water crossing after the mission was deep stuff and it went over my helmet three times, but I kept it going." 730X FRANCISCO SEPTIEN 1ST SCORE IRONMAN/6TH OVERALL MOTORCYCLE "This was just what I expected: fun! I won't do it again, though—one time only! I've always wanted to [solo the 1000], and I wanted the one that came to La Paz. Everything came together with people helping me, so I said, 'What the hell,' and did it. I went down twice but nothing serious." The Laramie Bales/Clint Chew/Ryan Epp/Lars Satre/Olaf "Bing" Satre team topped the large Sportsman Motorcycle division.
