Brad Lackey was pictured making waves at Puyallup on the cover 40 years
ago. It was wet and rainy in Washington for the Trans-AMA MX Series, where
Harry Everts claimed the 500cc-class win. Kenny Zahrt won the 250
support class… We tested the Carabela Marquesa 125cc motocrosser.
We liked its $799 price and 195-pound weight and recommended it for the
novice and intermediate rider… Billy Gray
was the top runner at the Ascot Half Mile.

The 1984 Honda CR480R motocrosser was already the best in its class,
but we found a way to make it even better. A photo of our CR project bike
was pictured on the cover to accompany our hop-up story… We revealed
the latest Suzuki GV 1400 GD Cavalcade LT luxury tourer, as well as the
1985 Twin-Link M-Star (Maico) GM250 and GM500 motocrossers. Can-
Am also showcased its '85 line of off-roaders… Team Hammer won its
second WERA Endurance Road Race Championship, wrapping it all up in
Braselton, Georgia.

IMS built what we said was the ultimate dual sport bike, a highly modified
Kawasaki KLX650 that Cycle News associate editor Chris Jonnum got to
ride and model for the front page… Steve Lamson was one of the big win-
ners at the Barcelona Supercross… Guess who won the Vet World Cham-
pionships at Glen Helen? Who else but Doug Dubach… Scott Plessinger

It was a photo of Jeremy McGrath to accompany our interview with the King
of Supercross. Jeff Ward also got a spot on the cover for being one of the
big championship winners at the Las Vegas Supermoto final… Andrew Short
brought his broom to France where he swept the Bercy Supercross… We
previewed the 2005 Supercross Series… We tested the latest WR250 and
WR450 from Yamaha… Jimmy Jarrett won the OMA round in Morrison, Illinois.
