800 R
F
or 2015 the BMW F 800 R
returns with its first major redo
since its debut in 2009. It gets
all-new and updated styling, new
suspension and a retuned engine for
three additional horsepower.
Inverted forks replace the former
standard telescopic forks, and it gets
an all-new symmetrical headlight
unit. Braking has been updated a bit.
Two-channel ABS is standard equip-
ment and has been upgraded with
an additional pressure sensor on
the front brake for improved feel and
more precision performance. The
Brembo calipers are also now radially
mounted.
The F 800 R has a fresh new look
with its newly designed fairings,
wheels, radiator guards and front
mudguards. And there are new color
options available. It also has a new
feel, too, with longer handlebars that
provide a more relaxed riding position
and footpegs that have been moved
down and forward slightly. Seat height
has also been lowered by 10mm (31.1
inches from seat to tarmac.)
Thanks to some "retuning," the F
800 R now pumps out 90 hp @ 8000
rpm, while its torque figures—63 lb-ft
@ 5800 rpm—remain the same. First
and second gear ratios have also
been shortened somewhat.
Many options are available: Automat-
ic Stability Control, Electronic Suspen-
sion Adjustment and heated grips are
just a few of them. Different package
upgrades are available as well.
Claimed wet weight is 445 pounds.
BMW has not announced pricing or
availability yet.
