known for his all-around ability on a dirt
bike. He excelled in the desert, in scram-
bles and was a talented trials rider before
concentrating mostly on motocross. In
1956, he won the Catalina Grand Prix
and was a factory-backed BSA
rider for much of his career. He
still sometimes straps on his hel-
met and competes in motocross
