1000 XR
B
MW's S 1000 XR was one of the
many new models recently intro-
duced at the EICMA show in Italy.
The all-new BMW is designed for the se-
rious adventure sport-touring rider who
wants all the amenities to make long
days in the saddle as comfortable and
as safe as possible.
The XR is built around an inline
four-cylinder motor derived from the S
1000 R roadster but has been tuned
for more bottom-to-mid punch. Claimed
horsepower is 160 at 11,000 rpm.
Transmission is a six-speed and can be
obtained with BMW's Gear Shift Assist
Pro, which gives the rider the option of
changing gears without the aid of the
clutch. "Rain" and "Road" riding modes
are standard, as is BMW's Automatic
Stability Control and ABS. Want more?
The S 1000 XR can be equipped with
the Pro riding modes option package,
which includes the additional riding
modes "Dynamic" and "Dynamic Pro"
along with Dynamic Traction Control
(DTC) and ABS Pro, which takes the
standard ABS system to a higher level
by offering braking assistance while
banked in turns as well as in a straight-
line.
The XR features a similar aluminum-
alloy perimeter frame design as the S
1000 R roadster. It uses the motor as a
stressed member, and the rear sub-
frame has been beefed up to increase
load-bearing capacity. Compared
to the roadster, the XR has a longer
wheelbase, shallower steering angle
and a more upright seating position.
Suspension is fully adjustable and
BMW's Dynamic Electronic Suspension
Adjustment is available as an upgrade
option. Many touring accessories and
upgrades will be available.
Pricing has not been announced.
