Speedway racing made the front page 40 years ago with an artist's rendition
of Rick Wood… Speaking of speedway, we were on hand to cover Steve
Bast winning the U.S. Speedway Championship at Costa Mesa… What's it
like to ride around town on a sidehack? We gave it a shot and told you about
it… It was a wet one at the Lake Whitney Trans-AMA MX round in Texas. It
was more of an enduro than motocross, but
Roger DeCoster won it anyway… We visited
the Can-Am factory in Canada.

We got the chance to take a close-up look at Jimmy Adomo's Cagva Super-
bike, which was featured in action on the cover 30 years ago… We also dis-
sected the Harley-Davidson's prototype Nova V-4… We interviewed "the man
behind The King," Kenny Roberts' tuner Kel Carruthers… Terry Cunningham
did what he usually did back then—win National Enduros. We covered his
latest victory at the Delaware National… We honored recently retired Kenny
Roberts with a look back at his career through photos.
